Lexington, VA

Lexington, Virginia, founded in 1777, is a self-governing city located in Rockbridge County, Virginia. It has a small population of about 7,000 people (2010 census). It is about an hour east from West Virginia and about fifty miles north from Roanoke, Virginia. It is the home of the prestigious Washington and Lee University and the military academy, Virginia Military Institute (VMI.)

Filled with history, Lexington attracts many tourists. It is the burial ground of Civil War generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson. It is the location of Stonewall Jackson’s only home that he ever owned which has now been opened to the public as a museum. Tourists travel here to view Stonewall Jackson’s House, Lee Chapel, VMI, Washington & Lee University, Virginia Military Institute Museum, Museum of Military Memorabilia, Natural Bridge, Virginia Horse Center, Boxerwood Gardens, downtown historic district, the George C. Marshall Museum, Theater at lime Kiln, and Hull’s Drive In. There is also a 38,000lb piece of Texas pink granite remembering the birthplace of Sam Houston, the governor of Tennessee and Texas.
